Hyperliquid
On-chain order-book perpetuals with wallet or email sign-in.
Hyperliquid is a conventional perpetual DEX: one on-chain order book, one published fee schedule for standard perpetuals, and sign-in by wallet or email. If you have used a centralized perp exchange, the layout and the order types will feel familiar. Trading is gas-free once funds arrive, and you pay gas only to deposit from another chain. There is no KYC. The Terms bar the US, Ontario, and sanctioned jurisdictions, but they do not say which jurisdictions the sanctions clause covers.

Our assessment of Hyperliquid
Strengths
- One fee schedule for standard perpetuals, with the full volume table published. Staking HYPE and using a referral code both cut the rate further.
- No KYC. Connect a wallet or sign in with an email address, then deposit USDC from Arbitrum or send BTC, ETH, SOL, and several other assets directly.
- The order types match a centralized exchange: market, limit, stop, take-profit, trailing stop, scale, and TWAP, with cross or isolated margin.
- Withdrawals to Arbitrum carry a small flat fee, settle in minutes, and need no gas on your side.
Watch for
- The base rate is not the rate for every market. HIP-3 markets and some quote assets carry different fees, and your tier changes the number. Check the fee shown before you confirm.
- The US, Ontario, and sanctioned jurisdictions are excluded, and so are citizens of sanctioned jurisdictions living elsewhere. The sanctions list is not published, and using a VPN to get around the restrictions breaches the Terms.
- Validators can intervene in a market. In March 2025 the validator set voted to delist JELLY perpetuals and settle every open position at a price that protected the protocol's own HLP vault, and the Hyper Foundation said it would make other users whole (Hyperliquid's statement, CoinDesk). Delisting by validator vote is documented policy, and the active set is the 27 largest validators by stake.
- Profitable positions can be closed for you. When a liquidation leaves an account underwater, auto-deleveraging closes the most profitable, most leveraged positions on the other side at the last mark price. It ran on cross-margin accounts for the first time in the October 2025 crash (founder's account).
- Leverage caps are per asset and step down as a position grows, so the headline maximum applies only to the largest markets at moderate size.
How to start
- Check that your country is not excluded by the current Terms. The US, Ontario, and sanctioned jurisdictions are.
- Open app.hyperliquid.xyz and connect an EVM wallet (Rabby, MetaMask, WalletConnect, or Coinbase Wallet) or sign in with your email. Wallet users sign one gas-free "Enable Trading" message.
- Deposit. The direct route is USDC on Arbitrum with a little ETH for gas. You can also send USDC from Ethereum, Base, or Polygon, or BTC, ETH, SOL, and other assets, which you then sell for USDC on the spot market.
- Pick a market, choose cross or isolated margin and a leverage level, and check the fee and liquidation price on the order ticket before you confirm.
- To take funds out, use Withdraw, not Send. Send moves funds to another Hyperliquid account, and Withdraw moves them to another chain.

Leverage and margin
Maximum leverage is set per asset, from 3x to 40x, and you can choose any whole number up to the cap. Cross margin is the default, and isolated margin is available. Caps step down on large positions, for example BTC from 40x to 20x above $150M notional and ETH from 25x to 15x above $100M. Maintenance margin is half the initial margin at maximum leverage.
Markets and order types

Order types: market, limit, stop and take-profit in market or limit form, trailing stop, chase, scale, and TWAP, with reduce-only, post-only, and immediate-or-cancel options.

The direct route is USDC on Arbitrum, which needs a little ETH for gas. The deposit screen also accepts USDC sent from Ethereum, Base, or Polygon, and BTC, ETH, SOL, AVAX, ZEC, and several other tokens through Unit, an independent team, and you then sell those for USDC on the spot market. Is Hyperliquid safe to use?
You keep your own keys: there is no account to open and no custodian holding a balance for you, and every order, trade, and liquidation settles on-chain. Against that, the validator set has intervened in a market once (the JELLY delisting in March 2025), auto-deleveraging can close profitable positions during a crash, and the chain runs on a small stake-weighted validator set. Treat it as a well-run exchange with governance risk, not as neutral infrastructure, and read the points under Watch for.
