Aster

Order-book perpetuals with hidden orders on its own chain. The fee depends on the market group.

Perpetual DEXOrder bookChecks may apply11+ countries restrictedWeb, Android app, iOS beta

Aster is a perpetual DEX that is still changing fast. It was formed in 2025 by merging two BNB Chain projects, moved its order book onto its own chain in March 2026, and sells itself on privacy: hidden orders that never show on the book, and an Account Privacy setting on Aster Chain that hides balances and positions. Maker orders are free on every order-book market and a new account pays 0.04% to take, but the schedule you are on depends on the market group and on how much ASTER you hold, not just on volume. Sign-in is by wallet or email with no identity check, though the Terms reserve the right to ask for one, and the country list starts with the US, Canada, and the UK. Its volume has also been questioned: DefiLlama pulled Aster's perpetuals data in October 2025 because it could not verify the numbers, then relisted it while still calling it a black box.

Our assessment of Aster

Strengths

  • Free maker orders on every order-book market, a taker rate that starts at 0.04% and falls to 0.016% at the top VIP tier, and a flat 0.0125% to take on stock, commodity, and index perpetuals.
  • Hidden orders. A hidden limit order rests in the book without showing its price or size, and the position it opens stays out of public data too. On Aster Chain, Account Privacy hides balances and positions behind one-time stealth addresses and zero-knowledge proofs.
  • A long market list: about 450 crypto pairs, 115 US, Hong Kong, and Korean stocks, ETFs, gold, oil, and pre-IPO markets for OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX, plus a separate 1001x mode and a spot book.
  • Wallet or email sign-in from BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Solana, with BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, USDC, USD1, and yield-bearing tokens accepted as margin once Multi-Asset Mode is on.

Watch for

  • Which schedule you are on. About twenty Group B pairs pay 0.1% taker for a new account, VIP tiers need an ASTER balance as well as volume, and the 1001x and Shield modes do not use maker and taker fees at all. Read the fee line on the order ticket for the market and mode you are in.
  • Identity checks are possible. The Terms let Aster run "limited identity verification" to comply with regulations and limit service to anyone who declines, but nothing says when. They also make you promise not to get around the location restrictions, and the list names the US, Canada, the UK, China, Russia, Ukraine, and five more.
  • The volume figures were disputed. On October 5, 2025 DefiLlama delisted Aster's perpetuals volume after its co-founder found the numbers tracking Binance's almost one to one and Aster offered no order-level data to check (0xngmi's post, The Block). Two weeks later DefiLlama relisted Aster at Aster's request, saying it still could not verify the figures (Cryptonews). Treat the volume rankings as unverified.
  • Pricing has broken once. On September 25, 2025 the mark price of the XPL perpetual jumped above $4 while XPL traded near $1.30 elsewhere, liquidating shorts. Aster halted the market, refunded the liquidations in USDT within hours, and later covered the fees, but it did not publish a post-mortem confirming the cause users identified, a hard-coded index price left over from the pre-launch market (Aster's post, The Block).
  • One company runs the chain. Aster Chain's core contracts and RPC infrastructure are closed source, outside validators are not yet allowed, and the published audits cover the vault, Earn, asBNB, USDF, and asCAKE contracts, not the exchange or the bridge. Delistings settle open positions at a final mark price on 24 hours' notice, and auto-deleveraging can close profitable positions when the insurance fund cannot cover a loss.
  • Very high leverage. 1001x mode and Shield Mode go to 1001x on BTC. At that level a move of about 0.1% liquidates you, adding margin is blocked from 500x, and Shield Mode charges 15% to 20% of any profit unless you choose its flat fee.
  • Withdrawal costs are not fixed. The destination chain's gas comes out of the withdrawal, Aster says the minimum fee can be as low as 1 USDT, and same-day profits are capped by a daily limit the docs do not state.

How to start

  1. Check the Terms' country list. The US, Canada, the UK, China, North Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, and Syria are excluded, and you agree not to use a VPN or any other means to get around it.
  2. Open asterdex.com or install Aster Mobile, pick the chain your funds are on (BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Solana), and connect a wallet. Or sign in with an email address, which creates a wallet that accepts only USDT on Arbitrum.
  3. Deposit USDT, or another supported margin asset if you switch on Multi-Asset Mode. On BNB Chain keep at least 0.001 BNB for gas. Deposits usually show within a few minutes and carry no Aster fee.
  4. Choose the mode: Pro for the order book, Shield for privacy at high leverage, 1001x for one-click leverage straight from your wallet. In Pro, pick a market, set leverage under the market's cap, choose cross or isolated margin, and check the fee line, since Group B pairs and RWA markets have different rates. Tick Hidden Order if you do not want the order shown on the book.
  5. To take funds out, settle any negative balance with Rebalance, then choose the network and token. The gas fee is deducted from the amount, and same-day profits are subject to a daily limit.

Fees

Those are the Crypto General rates at VIP 1, where a new account starts. Maker orders have been free on every order-book market since February 2026. The taker rate falls with VIP tier, and a tier needs both 14-day volume and an average ASTER balance, so volume alone does not lower your fee. Group B pairs pay more, stock and commodity perpetuals pay a flat 0.0125%, and the 1001x and Shield modes have their own fee models.

  • Group B markets: About twenty smaller crypto pairs, such as OKB and MEME, pay 0.1% taker at VIP 1 and 0.05% at VIP 2, then match the general schedule from VIP 3. Maker stays free.
  • Stock, commodity, and index markets: RWA perpetuals pay a flat 0.0125% taker at every tier, with no maker fee, and maker volume on them counts ten times toward the VIP tiers. USD1-quoted pairs use the same rates as their USDT versions.
  • Paying in ASTER: Fees paid in ASTER get 5% off on spot and, once the AFEE fee-credit balance runs out, on perpetuals.
  • Referral code: The referrer earns 10% of your fees and can pass any share of it back to you as a discount.
  • Other modes: 1001x mode charges 0.08% to open and 0.08% to close below 500x, plus a $0.50 execution fee on BNB Chain or $0.20 on Arbitrum. Shield Mode takes 15% to 20% of profits, or a flat 0.03% per side if you choose it, with a zero-fee promotion running when we checked.

Leverage and margin

On the order book each market has its own cap, shown in the trading panel, and you can choose any lower level. The docs do not publish the full table, but stock perpetuals go to 50x, pre-IPO markets to 10x or 20x, and new community-listed markets start at 3x. Cross margin is the default and isolated is available, but Multi-Asset Mode is cross only. The separate 1001x mode offers up to 1001x on BTC, 250x on ETH, 75x on other coins, and 200x on forex, with every position isolated and no adding margin at 500x or above. Shield Mode runs from 20x to 1001x.

The public market list carried 584 live perpetuals on September 25, 2026: about 450 crypto pairs and about 130 real-world-asset markets, among them 115 US, Hong Kong, and Korean stocks, 14 ETFs and indexes, and 11 commodities such as gold, silver, and oil, plus pre-IPO markets for OpenAI, Anthropic, and SpaceX and a few pre-launch tokens. Most are quoted in USDT, and a handful settle in USD1. Shield Mode adds EUR and GBP forex, and there is a spot order book. Order types: market, limit, stop-limit, stop-market, trailing stop, TWAP, scaled, chase, and grid strategies, with post-only, reduce-only, hidden, and immediate-or-cancel options.

Country restrictions

11+ countries restricted

The Terms, last updated February 25, 2026, name eleven prohibited jurisdictions: the US, Canada, the UK, China, North Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, and Syria, plus any territory under comprehensive sanctions or a terrorist-supporting designation and anyone on a US, EU, or UK sanctions list. The test is where you live, are located, or are incorporated. Aster's separate prediction market rejects orders from a longer list of 34 countries that adds Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and others.

Identity checks

You sign in with a wallet (Rabby, MetaMask, Binance Wallet, or anything on WalletConnect) or with an email address, and neither flow includes an identity check. The Terms, last updated February 25, 2026, say Aster may run limited identity verification to comply with regulations and may refuse or limit service to anyone who does not comply, but they do not say what triggers a check. You also warrant that your stated location is accurate and agree not to use any means to get around the location restrictions.

Depositing

Connect a wallet on BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Solana and deposit into the trading account through Aster's own bridge contracts, which are published along with a Sui address. USDT is the settlement asset and works from every chain. With Multi-Asset Mode on, USDC on Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Solana, SOL and JLP on Solana, and BTC, ETH, BNB, USD1, USDF, asBNB, and ASTER on BNB Chain also count as margin at a haircut. A BNB Chain wallet needs at least 0.001 BNB. Email sign-in accepts only USDT on Arbitrum. Deposits carry no Aster fee and usually land in one to five minutes. The docs do not publish minimums.

Withdrawing

Choose the network, token, and amount. The destination chain's gas is deducted from the withdrawal, and Aster says the minimum fee can be as low as 1 USDT, and the withdrawal screen shows the exact amount. Withdrawals from Aster Chain are batched, need two of three validators to sign, and take about 30 seconds, longer to Ethereum. Any negative balance must be settled first with Rebalance. Profits older than 24 hours can be withdrawn in full, while same-day profits are capped by a daily limit the docs do not state.

Referral program

The referrer earns 10% of a referred user's perpetual trading fees and chooses how much of that to pass back as a discount, from nothing to the full 10%. Only new sign-ups qualify, the relationship lasts 365 days by default, liquidation fees and zero-fee volume do not count, and rebates are paid in the asset the fee was paid in. No ChainScouter code is active.

Platform

The web app at asterdex.com is the main interface, with Pro, Shield, 1001x, and Spot as separate views. Aster Mobile is on Google Play under the Aster DEX developer account. The iOS build is distributed through TestFlight, and the docs still call the mobile app a beta. There is also a trading API with up to 30 keys per account.

Questions about Aster

What are Aster's trading fees?

Base perpetual fees are 0.04% taker and 0% maker.

Does Aster require KYC?

Sometimes. You sign in with a wallet (Rabby, MetaMask, Binance Wallet, or anything on WalletConnect) or with an email address, and neither flow includes an identity check. Is Aster safe to use?

Funds sit in contracts whose addresses are published, deposits and withdrawals are signed by the chain's validators, and the Terms say Aster does not custody your assets. Against that: Aster Chain's core contracts are closed source and its validators are Aster's own for now, the published audits do not cover the exchange itself, the XPL market mispriced in September 2025, and DefiLlama could not verify the exchange's volume. Treat it as a fast-growing exchange run by one company, with more open questions than Hyperliquid or Lighter, and read the points under Watch for.

Do I need ASTER to trade on Aster?

No. A new account trades at VIP 1 with no ASTER. Holding ASTER matters only for the higher VIP tiers, which need both 14-day volume and an average ASTER balance, and paying fees in ASTER takes 5% off.

What is the difference between Pro, Shield, and 1001x?

Pro is the order book: maker and taker fees, hidden orders, and a leverage cap per market. Shield Mode is a simplified, AMM-style interface from 20x to 1001x that hides positions by default and charges a share of profits or a flat 0.03% per side. 1001x trades against Aster's ALP liquidity pool straight from your wallet with no deposit, at 0.08% per side plus an execution fee, on BNB Chain and Arbitrum only.
